⁣Since the 1800s with coffee stunting growth and the early 1900s with health claims around orange juice, making stuff up in marketing has been a fairly common strategy. Going far beyond just embellishing the truth, some brands will outright lie.

These include the claim that Alpecin shampoo can prevent hair loss, drinking 8 glasses of water, Sunny Delight being made with real fruit juice, and the origins of the now ubiquitous 10k steps a day.
